Some horrific photos and videos of wildfires in Uttarakhand flooded Twitter on Wednesday.
Parag Madhukar Dhakate, the chief conservator of forests (CCF) for western circle in Uttarakhand, said there’s a lot of misinformation, old photos and fake news being circulated on social media. There is a reduction in fire and its been raining every few days so there is moisture and lesser incidents of forest fires, he said.
“There are no massive forest fires in Uttarakhand. Our forest officers are trying to douse the fire but there has been no major incident recently of forest fire. Almost every week it has been raining in some parts of the state and so there are comparatively less incidents of fire,” he said.
A forest fire broke out in Srinagar of Pauri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand on May 23. According to the forest department team, the fire broke out in a forest area which is 3 km away from the Srinagar town. “5-6 hectares of forest have been affected. The fire could not be controlled due to wind. More teams will be called to extinguish it,” Forest officer Anita Kunwar had told ANI then.
Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda called out the unverified information doing rounds on social media.
