Udupi: The president of BJP Yuva Morcha faced backlash after a video emerged of him celebrating the birthday of a party activist at a COVID-19 quarantine center in Karkala Taluk of Udupi District. This comes days after the opposition had accused the government of turning quarantine centers into publicity centers for the ruling party.
In the video, BJP Yuva Morcha President Karunaka Kotian and other BJP leaders can be seen defying social distancing norms and not taking any safety precautions. They were celebrating the birthday of BJP worker who had come from Maharashtra and was quarantined. The incident took place on May 22nd and the video has gone viral now.
The incident occurred at a time when many have been tested positive even after completing the mandatory quarantine period. This incident has given rise to worry among the citizens of the district which was placed in the green zone in the early days, had risen to the top spot in the state after large scale infection found among people who have returned from Maharashtra.
