Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a conversation with Nobel Laureate, Abhijit Banerjee on the economic fall out of the Covid-19 crisis, on Tuesday as part of his series of discussions with experts.
The Congress leader has been doing a round of interviews with prominent people including former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan.
On Tuesday’s conversation, MoneyControl, a financial portal attributed a fake quote to Abhijeet Banerjee facing backlash from Congress supporters.
In the conversation Abhijeet Banerjee had said, “The real problem in the short run is that these policies, good policies, put in place by UPA are inadequate & this govt in a sense absolutely embraced them..”
MoneyControl misquoted his tweet and wrote that the real problem in the short run is that the weak UPA policies were embraced by the current govt.
Many people pointed out that MoneyControl has misquoted the tweet of Prop. Abhijit Banerjee.
After facing backlash moneycontrolcom tweeted a correction tweet and apologized for the misreporting. But the original tweet is still not deleted and is retweeted widely.
